What Would You do?
Picture this:
It’s been a really long day and you just want to get home. You’re boss has been at you all day long. It’s Monday and you’re just back from a vacation. Stuff is piled up high on your desk. You’ve hit every single red light in Houston and nobody seems to be in the same hurry that you’re in. You’re tired, hungry, and in a less than perfect mood. You arrive at home and finally get to get out of your car. As you shut the car door and turn toward your house, you notice a young child playing near the street. You pause for a moment. In that pause, you see a car coming down the same street. You think to yourself “finally there’s a driver who’s in as much a hurry as I usually am” – unfortunately it’s in an area that’s populated by children. The car gets closer and closer and actually seems to speed up! The child is now in the street. She can’t see the car coming because she’s standing in front of another parked car. She takes another few steps into the street. The car is getting closer and closer to where she is. She takes another step. The car is weaving back and forth a little and seems to be picking up even more speed! The child looksin your direction - away from the speeding car – as she continues walking into the street!! There’s mere seconds until her young life is ended in a sure and gruesome death!
What would you do?
You shrug your shoulders, turn and head into your house of course. After all, you’ve had a hard day – you’re tired and hungry. And besides, she’s not even your child...
How does that sit with you? Not good? Yeah me neither….Never mind being a Christian – how about just being a normal person right? And yet I’m in relationships with God’s lost and wandering children who are headed for a sure and gruesome death and what do I do? Usually I shrug my shoulders and walk the other way. I believe in God and Heaven and Satan and Hell. I really do know the truth about eternity and I believe that the unsaved will spend theirs is an indescribably horrible place. And yet I can’t bring myself to share this truth with them. I really do know the truth about God’s beautiful grace and forgiveness- I experience them daily – I live in them! And yet I find it difficult to share this grace with them. I really do know that living in Christ is the key to a fulfilling, meaningful, joy-filled, abundant life and yet I can’t bring myself to share these truths with them. Man! Never mind being a Christian - ………
Will you please pray that we all be filled to the brim with God’s love for others? Unsaved and saved alike. Will you please pray that we all be so completely filled with God’s love that radical courage and consuming compassion flow from that love?
Pray it right now – He’s listening ….go ahead…..
1 John 4
7Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.
